Water, sewer, garbage service and storm water runoff fees are included on the same utility bill. Application for service must be made in person at the Water Department located inside City Hall at 501 Sheppard Road, 940-569-2263. A deposit is required of all residential and commercial customers and must be paid before any service can be started. The application process can be completed more quickly if you are prepared to supply the following information:
- Requested service date and time
- Customer name, date of birth, social security number and driver's license
- Service address
- Place of employment
The Water Department is open from 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM, Monday through Friday. For your convenience, we have a drive-through window on the south side of the building. We also have a night deposit beside the drive-through window. Please do not put cash in the night deposit.

If you want to discontinue service, please call or come by our office to let us know when you will be moving and your new address. Your deposit will be applied to your final bill and a check for any remaining deposit will be mailed to you on or about the first day of the month following termination of service. Water customers should practice water conservation by checking for leaks, dripping faucets, and running toilets and by utilizing water conservation kits such as displacement bags, low-flow shower heads, and leak detector tablets, and to minimize or discontinue water use for non-essential purposes.
Water meters are read approximately the 20th of each month and service considered to be from the 20th of the month until the 20th of the following month. Bills are mailed the last business day of each month and are due and payable on or before the 15th day of the following month. Unpaid bills are subject to turnoff after the 25th.
We offer Paperless Billing - if you are interested please go to the link below, fill out the information and submit. You will get a confirmation email after your request is received and applied to your account. You can also fill out a form in person in the Utility Billing Department at City Hall.
The water department offers an automatic draft plan that allows for automatic payment of your bill by your bank. We will send you a bill showing the amount for which your account will be drafted. All accounts are drafted on the 15th day of each month, or the following business day.
Your service may be terminated for any of the following reasons:
- Failure to pay your bill
- Failure to provide a deposit
- Failure to pay a past due bill on an account you've guaranteed
- Failure to make proper application for service in the true name of the customer
- Failure to make restitution for an insufficient fund check
Turning Meters On and Off
Tampering with water meters is a criminal offense. Please find out if your home has a shut-off valve near the house for use when you need to turn the water off or on. If you do not have one and you must have the water turned off or on at the meter, please contact the Water Department for assistance in this matter.
Your meter is read electronically every month and is estimated only in the event of extreme weather conditions that render it impossible to read. Meter readers work hard to avoid mistakes.

Please be aware that small leaks and drips become large ones; and, over a month's period of time, can add up to a substantial cost. Did you know that a toilet that hangs or runs continually uses as much water as a water hose left running for that same period of time?
